A14 Road Closure

This is a big one. Highways England will be installing the steel decking for the new Bar Hill Bridge and so the A14 will be closed Friday 14 September (9pm) to Monday 17 September (6am) (except for access to Bar Hill for local traffic). You can see how they will be undertaking this major operation here:  Bar Hill Junction – SPMT Movement. If you want to see them moving these two 1000 ton structures into place, they will be live-streaming the action – you should be able to find the link at https://highwaysengland.co.uk/a14-cambridge-to-huntingdon-improvement-scheme-home/

A14 Charity Walk Sunday 9 September

Highways England are holding a charity ‘Welly Walk’ on Sunday 9th September 2018, raising money for Cancer Research UK. The walk will follow the new A14 route between A1198, Ermine Street and Swavesey Junction. This is a unique opportunity for members of the public to explore 10 km of what will eventually be the new road carrying traffic between Cambridge and Huntingdon. HE are inviting you to come behind the traffic cones, get on site and see how they are progressing at building the new A14. This is a great opportunity for a good cause and is guaranteed to be a good day. Come and join them in the fight against cancer! You’ll arrive at their Main Project Office where you can park your vehicles for free. You’ll then be coached along the existing A14 to their Ermine Street compound. This is where your 10k guided walk along the new A14 will begin, finishing back up at their Main Project Office for drinks, Bbq, bouncy castle and more! It’s free but you need to book at A14 C2H Welly Walk

Safer Cycling, PC Meeting, A14 Charity Walk

Would you support having Dry Drayton linked to the new A14 off-road cycle route into Cambridge?

From Councillor Richard Stamford, Dry Drayton Parish Council.

The Parish Council is considering financially supporting the creation of a safe cycleway to link the existing cycleway from Bar Hill and adjacent villages to the new cycleways provided by the A14 development alongside it’s new local access roads. These will extend from the extremity of our village to both Huntingdon Road and Girton (see map at http://www.drydrayton.net/pdfs/Cpath.pdf for detail).

In order to obtain the necessary grants to accomplish this, we would need to show support from Dry Drayton parishioners and also to make a modest contribution from our precept (our precept is the village’s annual income).

It would be very helpful, therefore, if you would register your support (or otherwise) and indicate the maximum contribution you would feel it would be appropriate for the PC to make. (For your information, the balance of unallocated expenditure of our precept this year is £1,687 and the Council would consider £500 to a be reasonable grant for this project.)
